Jesus said “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:13.

On Saturday 25 April 2026, many in our school gathered with the whole community not to take glory in war, but to bring honour to all those who have served in all campaigns in our history; including those who are still serving in the armed forces today.

In WW1 Australia was a very young nation and, along with our neighbours in New Zealand, an army corps was formed which was known as the ANZACs. 

From what was originally the name of the army corps, ANZAC has now become synonymous with the very spirit of our nation. We live in very different times than our grandfathers, great-grandfathers and even fathers.

There have been many changes since the beginning of the last century; yet there is something that refuses to lie down. It is the spirit of ANZAC which was forged in the heat of battle all those years ago.

In a way the spirit of ANZAC is what shapes and identifies our national identity. The spirit of ANZAC speaks very clearly of the core of mateship at its highest level.

It speaks of a sense of duty to do the right thing, even in a world where that may not be popular thing to do.

It speaks of sacrifice for others and looking out for those less fortunate than ourselves.

It speaks of respect for those in authority, from our immediate families to those serving in our communities, our councils and our government.

The spirit of ANZAC also speaks of humour and the ability to share a joke with your mates when times are tough.

At another level it speaks of faith; it is a faith that gives its life for a great cause.

These qualities of sacrifice, respect, duty and faith come from another man that had a battle to fight for the souls of mankind; and who ultimately laid down his life for his friends. May we never forget all those who have gone before us in all campaigns to help give us the lives and the freedoms that we all enjoy today.

Jesus’ love is quite amazing because, as our key verse for this week indicates – He demonstrated it in His death while we were still sinners. The good news is we can be justified by believing in Jesus’ faithfulness and saved through Him.

In addition to ANZAC Day, it is important we also never forget the one who loves us and who died for us. Jesus’ life gives people identity as people who believe, a people belonging to Him.

Waste To Art Competition

The competition invites artists of all ages to reimagine waste by turning discarded items into meaningful works of art. The competition is help raise awareness of the imortance of sustainability in our lives.

So, whether it’s a striking gown made from old curtains, or a portrait using bottle tops the goal is to inspire people to see value in things we usually throw away.

That could mean donating, reselling, repairing, upcycling, or recycling

We’re looking for standout creations that inspire others to see value in the things we often throw away.

Mother’s Day Assembly and Lunch

Just a quick message that our Primary Assembly on Friday 8th May will be from 11:30 to 12:30pm.

This will be followed by a special Mother’s Day lunch. We invite our Mums, Grannys, Aunties and other special caregivers to join together in A11 for a light lunch. You are welcome to join your children by having a picnic, with their own packed lunches. We look forward to sharing in this special community time together!

Calling all K–6 adventurers to join us for Pirate Day! Dress up in your best pirate gear—think eye patches, hats, stripes, and plenty of swagger—as we set sail on a mission to make a difference.

We’re raising funds to help turn the tide on kids’ brain cancer. Sadly, more children in Australia lose their lives to brain cancer than any other disease, and treatments can leave lasting impacts. That’s why every dollar truly counts.

So gather your crew, bring your gold coins, and let’s work together to make childhood brain cancer walk the plank!

Get ready for a day of fun, friendship, and purpose—we can’t wait to see all our little pirates on deck!

Wet Weather Sport  Year 7 to 10

There are quite a few secondary sport days throughout the year that are generally cancelled due to wet weather. It would be fantastic if students could still participate when it is wet. In order to do this, we need parental approval and a guarantee that students will bring to school a spare school uniform to wear after sport is finished.

In order for your child to participate in sport during wet weather they will need to wear their sports uniform to school with their school shoes. They will also need to bring the following items to school in a bag:

• Change of clothes to get wet and muddy (they must be appropriate, or you won’t participate)
• Football boots or joggers (to use during sport)
• Towel
• Water bottle & hat

They will only be allowed to participate in wet weather sport if they bring the above items.

PASS/SLR Water Games & Inflatable Excursion – Friday 24th April, 2026

Despite the wet weather, students from the Senior SLR and PASS classes made the most of their recent excursion to Lismore Memorial Baths, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and positivity.

While the rain may have dampened the surroundings, it certainly didn’t dampen spirits. Students showed great resilience, jumping into activities with energy and a willingness to have fun regardless of the conditions. The giant inflatable quickly became a highlight of the day, with plenty of laughter echoing across the pool as students encouraged one another and celebrated both spectacular successes and hilarious wipeouts.

The excursion provided a wonderful opportunity to see friendships strengthened and new connections formed. Students demonstrated excellent teamwork, supporting each other through challenges and working together during group activities. It was especially encouraging to see students stepping out of their comfort zones, building confidence in the water, and cheering on their peers.

Beyond the fun, the day reinforced key learning from both the PASS and SLR courses, particularly around the importance of physical activity, participation, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Most importantly, it was a reminder that with the right attitude, even a rainy day can turn into a memorable and rewarding experience.

Zone Soccer – Kingscliff

This year’s Zone Football (soccer) Competition will be held at 
Kingscliff. We will be sending six teams to participate in this exciting event. The competition will follow
a round-robin format, with each team playing approximately four to five games.

Event Details:

Date: Thursday, 7th May 2026
Departure: 6:00 AM from Casino Christian School / Lismore Log by 6.25am
Return: 6:00 PM to Casino Christian School / Lismore Log by 5.30pm
Location: Kingscliff Soccer Club at 13 Murphys Road, Kingscliff
Cost: $50 per student (covers player fees and transport)

Please note:
If your child does not travel on the bus and arranges their own transport, they will still be required to pay the full excursion fee.

A canteen will be available – Still ensure your child brings enough food and water for the
entire day, including a solid breakfast before departure.

What to Bring:
✔ Full school sports uniform (students must wear the correct uniform to and from the tournament)
✔ Football boots & shin pads
✔ Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
✔ Lunch and canteen money (if available)
✔ Water bottle
❌ No electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, etc.) – turned off in your bag.

New Uniform Orders: Just a reminder that Year 7 – 12 are required to wear a navy tie with their formal uniform. These are now back in stock and available to order.

Regular fitting and collection days during school terms will be on Wednesdays, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Students can schedule fittings by emailing uniform@ccs.nsw.edu.au with their student’s name and year. Parents do not need to attend fittings; uniform staff will ensure they are correctly fitted and sent home with a list of sizes for each item.

We also have a limited amount of our current uniform stock available at 50% off (excluding hats). These items may be purchased directly from the Uniform Shop while stock lasts.

Just a few notes regarding the uniform:

• We now have available to order two styles of girls’ blouses – the slimfit and a normal fit blouse. This will be clearly labelled on the new order forms, with the slimfit shirts in a red font. Please order according to the size indicated on the size sheet brought home from your child’s fitting.
• We have amended the girls’ uniform slightly so that during colder weather, navy opaque stockings can be worn with the skort or skirts, as an alternative to pants.

Tennis coaching programs are available after school at Casino Tennis Club on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:45pm.

Coaching is performed by qualified Tennis Australia coaches and lessons are available for ages 4 – 17 years. There are programs for beginners through to advanced players as well as cardio tennis programs available for adults.
