The Lion King is coming!

There is a certain buzz, or roar, in the air at school as we prepare for our upcoming theatre production of The Lion King. Tickets are now selling through the Office, and you can hear the musical stylings of “Akuna Matada” being sung, played and danced to every lunchtime before the bell rings if you visit the school. Our students (and staff!) have been rehearsing diligently, and I know we are all looking forward to seeing them shine on stage on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th of  November at 6 pm.

In case you didn’t know, The Lion King musical follows the journey of Simba, a young lion who must embrace his destiny as king after the tragic death of his father, Mufasa. Set against the stunning backdrop of the African savanna, the story explores themes of family and responsibility and is brought to life through vibrant music, dance, and breathtaking backdrops. Thanks to Mrs Megan Wade and her team of students for these!

Every two years, we hold a production at our school, and you might remember seeing our students shine in Matilda two years ago. How impressive it was, and I felt so proud watching some of our more reserved students, who have faced many challenges, stand up and confidently perform brilliantly. Seeing every one of them grow in their confidence and overcome their nerves was very inspiring to me personally and as the principal.

We know school is so much more than just academics, and participating in theatre productions offers numerous benefits for our students. It fosters creativity and imagination, allowing them to explore different characters and stories. Through acting, they develop essential skills they will need in life, including being able to speak in public, work together in a team, and show empathy, all while they learn to collaborate with peers and understand different perspectives. Theatre productions also help students boost their self-confidence, helping them overcome shyness and the fear of judgment from their peers. Overall, theatre provides a fun and enriching environment that supports personal growth, commitment and social development.

That’s why we think it’s so important for all our Primary School students to be involved in this musical. We might not reach the dizzying heights of a performance at the Sydney Opera House, but we are proud of all our students and the contributions, both on stage and backstage, that they bring to making this story come alive.

If you can, we would love to see you there! Tickets are available through the Office, and refreshments will be available for purchase during intermission. Eftpos is available.

Hope to see you all there!

Principal

Musical Information  for Primary Students

All primary students have been working hard to learn songs and dances for our performance of The Lion King Jnr. This has been a key part of the students’ Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) learning this year. It is expected that all students attend and participate in the two performance nights.

The performances are on Tuesday and Wednesday 5-6th November. The show starts at 6pm and runs for about 1 hour. Students will be required to come to school at around 5:15pm. More information to come.

If your child is not able to attend and participate on the night, please email me asap ccoulter@ccs.nsw.edu.au as we need to finalise the routines and costumes.

Regarding costumes, most aspects of the costumes are being made by students at school. Primary students will need to wear:

Kindy, Yr 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 –  fully black pants/skirts/tights (shorts or long pants.. long is preferable)

Year 3  Brown, tan, sandy, olive/dark green, or black (single colour) long pants, shorts or skirts.

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term at Casino Christian School!

Jump Rope for Heart is the Heart Foundation’s primary school skipping challenge that helps kids move more, have fun, and raise funds for life-saving research and programs.

This year we’ve got an audacious goal to see our student Heart Heroes at CCS to log 40 hours of skipping throughout the program!

Register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started. www.jumprope.org.au/parents

Students will be skipping throughout the term in PE lessons during lunch and recess break, and during class breaks. Throughout this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

We will hold our school Jump Off Day on November 29. This will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

Paint Ball Excursion – PASS & Senior Students Year 9 to Year 11

    Friday 22 nd November, 2024 (9.00am to 2.45pm)

On Friday 22 nd November, 2024 the PASS Class will be travelling to Ballina to experience Paintball. The aim of this activity is for students to participate in a number of high energy games that cannot normally be
experienced in regular school hours. Mr McPherson, Mr Boland and Mrs Bryant will be participating and supervising the students for this excursion.
Even though this is a PASS & Senior Students elective excursion, students from Year 9 and Year 10 have been invited to attend because we have space for up to 35 students. This means that the first 35 students to return their
note and payment will be able to attend this excursion.

To participate in this excursion you must complete the permission note and return it TO THE OFFICE with your money ($95) by Friday 15th November, 2024. The Presbyterian Church requires the attached ‘risk warning’ form to be signed for any activity out of the ordinary. It is a standard form that would be used for anything from sky diving to horse riding and has not been written particularly for paintball.
