Many people believe every parent’s job is to make sure their children turn out ‘right’. Even though most of us don’t quite know what that standard means, we feel obliged to meet it.

What is our responsibility as parents?

The Bible records these words in Psalm 78 which give us an insight into His plans for parenting.

“He commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know (God’s commandments), even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget His deeds but would keep His commands”. Psalm 78:5-7

There is so much fine print in parenting that is never written anywhere when you become one. Responsibilities; such as paying for things, coaching your daughter’s soccer team, correcting your son’s table manners, sitting through countless piano recitals, teaching spiritual values, having enough income to pay the bills, driving all over town, disciplining, encouraging, saying ‘no’ at times and ‘yes’ at others, setting boundaries… And repeating all this as needed.

In doing this year after year, we greatly increase the opportunity for our child or teenager to choose what is wise and right. It is crucial to look to the wise words of the Psalmist and teach, train and nurture our children. We know that so much of what goes on at school is an extension of parenting.

Every staff member at this school believes Jesus is King, and it is important to follow Him. We are each committed to following Jesus and helping students at the school to be themselves. We also seek to assist each child to have a sense of belonging to our community. For this reason, we have created an environment where students can believe in the Lordship of Jesus. It is important for us to take responsibility in helping students behave in a way that honours Him in the wider community.

We encourage each family in our school to work out their responsibility as parents and carers in a Biblical framework.

Pirate Day Fundraising

A huge thank you to our wonderful school community for supporting Pirate Day! 🏴‍☠️

Thanks to your generosity and enthusiasm, we raised an amazing $435.90 towards research into childhood brain cancer. Every donation helps make a difference, and we are so grateful for everyone who dressed up, donated, and joined in the fun for such an important cause.

Together, we are helping bring hope to children and families affected by brain cancer.

We’re looking forward to our 2026 Athletics Carnival, which will be held over two days at school:

• Secondary Carnival: Thursday, 11 June
• Primary Carnival: Friday, 12 June

Note: All 8–10 year olds will compete together in field events, as well as the 800m and 1500m.

National Simultaneous Storytime – Wednesday 27th May

On Wednesday 27th May at 12pm, students from Kindy to Year 6 joined schools and libraries across Australia in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime 2026. Students enjoyed reading the wonderful story Luna Roo together, sharing in the joy of storytelling, imagination and literacy. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and excitement as our students participated in this special nationwide event.

Wet Weather Sport  Year 7 to 10

There are quite a few secondary sport days throughout the year that are generally cancelled due to wet weather. It would be fantastic if students could still participate when it is wet. In order to do this, we need parental approval and a guarantee that students will bring to school a spare school uniform to wear after sport is finished.

In order for your child to participate in sport during wet weather they will need to wear their sports uniform to school with their school shoes. They will also need to bring the following items to school in a bag:

• Change of clothes to get wet and muddy (they must be appropriate, or you won’t participate)
• Football boots or joggers (to use during sport)
• Towel
• Water bottle & hat

They will only be allowed to participate in wet weather sport if they bring the above items.

Bill Turner Double Header – Thursday 4th June 2026

Bill Turner Trophy (u15 Girls) and Bill Turner Cup (u15 Boys) will play a Double-Header on Thursday 4th June 2026 (9.30am to 2.30pm). Both games will be held at Nielson Park (Rovers Field) in East Lismore against Trinity Catholic School. Selected students will need to be ready to leave once all the buses arrive. The u15 Girls game Kick-off is 10.30am and the u15 Boys game will kick-off at 12.00pm after the girls game.

Match Details:
Date: Thursday, 4th June 2026 (9.00am to 2.30pm)
Venue: Rovers Fields in East Lismore
Cost: $15 per student (to cover cost of the bus and driver)

Following both matches, we will stop at McDonald’s on the way back to school for a bite to eat. We will return to school by 2.30pm.

U15 Boys Zone Basketball Tryouts

Tryouts will be held on Monday 1st June & Tuesday 2nd June at Lunch. Any students interested in representing the school are encouraged to attend both sessions.

Yr 9 & 10 PASS and Yr11 & 12 SLR – Night Games at School

On Tuesday 2nd June the PASS & SLR classes will be staying at school from 3.30pm to 8.30pm to play wide games across the school, night games and to eat Domino’s Pizzas. The aim of this activity is for students to participate in a number of high energy games that cannot normally be experienced in regular school hours. Mr McPherson, My Young, Mr Prozinski, Mrs Howes, Mrs Oosterbeek and Mrs Watson will be supervising the students for this after school activity.

Yr 9 & 10 PASS and Yr11 & 12 SLR Bush Walking at Minyon Falls Excursion

On Friday 5th June, the senior SLR class and the PASS elective class will be travelling to Minyon Falls for a bushwalk to the bottom of the falls. An important component of these subjects is promoting learning through movement by experiencing physical activities that are not usually done in school sport or PE.

Excursion Details

• 7:00 AM – Depart by bus from Casino Christian School
• 8.00 AM – Arrive at Minyon Falls
• 8:30 AM – Walk from Minyon Falls lookout to the base of Minyon Falls then back up to Minyon Grass Picnic area.
• 1.00 PM – Have lunch at Minyon Grass picnic area
• 1:30 PM – Leave Minyon Grass for school
• 2:45 PM – Arrive back at school.

What to bring

• Comfortable and sensible walking clothes and walking shoes
• Large Plastic water bottle or a few small water bottles
• Food and snacks
• Small towel if you ant to walk through the water
• Enclosed shoes (no crocs, thongs or slides for the bus trip
• Asthma puffer and any required medication
• Hat and Suncreen (if you do not like the school sunscreen)

New Uniform Orders: Just a reminder that Year 7 – 12 are required to wear a navy tie with their formal uniform. These are now back in stock and available to order.

Regular fitting and collection days during school terms will be on Wednesdays, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Students can schedule fittings by emailing uniform@ccs.nsw.edu.au with their student’s name and year. Parents do not need to attend fittings; uniform staff will ensure they are correctly fitted and sent home with a list of sizes for each item.

We also have a limited amount of our current uniform stock available at 50% off (excluding hats). These items may be purchased directly from the Uniform Shop while stock lasts.

Just a few notes regarding the uniform:

• We now have available to order two styles of girls’ blouses – the slimfit and a normal fit blouse. This will be clearly labelled on the new order forms, with the slimfit shirts in a red font. Please order according to the size indicated on the size sheet brought home from your child’s fitting.
• We have amended the girls’ uniform slightly so that during colder weather, navy opaque stockings can be worn with the skort or skirts, as an alternative to pants.
